Community Boardsmanship Training

Parking Instructions for this event: Park in the middle level of the UNO Parking Garage on the east side -60th Street and Dodge. The gate will be open and you can park anywhere on that level. Boardsmanship training will be held in the building just east of the Bell Tower.

Whether you currently serve on a board, manage a board or want to know more about important board governance issues affecting us today, please join the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands and LOAA on October 29th (4pm-6:30pm) at UNO's new Collaborating Commons for "Boardsmanship 101" with Pete Tulipana. Pete will be followed by an insightful panel discussion sure to provide even the most experienced community leaders with a few 'ah-ha's about boardsmanship. There is a $20 fee to attend.

  • Pete Tulipana, President and CEO of Heartland Family Service, is educated in both management and clinical areas. Pete has led Heartland Family Service's staff to identify and address the most urgent needs of children and families in the metro area. He also provides leadership to local and statewide family-strengthening efforts as a board member and as a consultant to other non-profit organizations. Pete has taught a class on nonprofit leadership and board development at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
  • Kerri Peterson, Executive Director of Our Healthy Community Partnership, will discuss governance from the organizational perspective.
  • Marilyn L. Harris, PhD. is currently a consultant in the field of nonprofit
    board effectiveness. She is chair of the Lincoln Children's Zoo board, and serves on the boards of United Way, Lincoln Community Foundation, and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.
  • Daniel Smith, a partner at Smith Gardner Slusky Law, will provide insight into the legalities of board governance and nonprofit organizations.
  • Patrick McNamara, PhD., director of philanthropic services for the Omaha Community Foundation, will moderate the discussion.
